Having sensitive teeth is not the worst dental problem that you can have but it can still be very annoying and get in your way every time you want to eat or drink something. This dental problem occurs when you have a weakened layer of enamel. Enamel is the protective layer that is on the top of your teeth and protects the dentin, which is a much weaker layer beneath it. When the layer of enamel is weak the food and drinks that you use will have a bigger affect on your dentin which is connected to the nerves and that’s why you end up having sensitive teeth. Basically what happens is that you get a painful sensation for around half a minute every time when you are eating or drinking something that is cold or hot.

There are many different symptoms of having sensitive teeth. The top two symptoms are hot and cold temperature. When you are drinking or eating something that is cold like cold drinks or ice cream you will feel a sudden pain that is a terrible annoyance. When you are drinking cold beverages the pain may not be caused by the temperature but it can also be caused by the sugar inside the drink so you should consider that as another possible symptom. Basically the same goes for foods and beverages with a high temperature. You get the same kind of pain when you drink or eat something hot like coffee or fries. Another symptom of sensitive teeth is when you experience pain coming from sweet food or drinks. Most of the beverages on the market have high amounts of sugar in them and this can be a real problem if you have sensitive teeth because you will end up feeling pain all the time. The same thing goes for food that has high amounts of sugar in it. One of the other possible symptoms that can indicate that you are suffering from sensitive teeth is pain when you touch your teeth. You can feel this pain when you are brushing your teeth or even when you are just touching them with your tongue. If you feel pain every time when you touch your teeth then this is a good sign that you should visit the dentist’s office as soon as you can because it can be a sign for a bigger problem. Another symptom that can indicate sensitive teeth is if you feel your teeth pulsating. This is a result of bad dental hygiene and is another sign that you should discuss with your dentist so that he/she can give you the correct advice on what you can do to fix the problem.

Sensitive teeth are a dental problem, they might not be the most serious one but they still are a problem and that’s why you should take care of them. The most important thing you should do is to try and keep a good dental hygiene. If you brush your teeth regularly and you use dental floss and perhaps some mouthwash you should feel better and if you don’t you should visit your dentist and ask for advice.
